Horlacher Brewing Co. 1866 - 1978

Horlacher Brewing Co. was founded in 1866 by James Wise, at this time it was known as the Allentown Brewing Company. In 1882 Fred Horlacher took over the Brewery and later his son , Fredrick, moved the brewery to North Third and Gordon Street. Fredrick renamed the brewery Horlacher Brewing Company in 1902, Horlacher was most popular for their Nine Month Old “ Perfection Beer” Ale. This Beer was specially aged to withstand long distance deliveries. When Prohibition hit Horlacher Brewery took a big hit and was struggling to survive, Surviving off of “ Cereal Beverage” a beer with a 1/2 of 1% alcohol content and later manufacturing soft drinks known as “ Pure- Ox”
